I am a mother, wife, friend, businesswoman, advocate, and philanthropist. I am not a politician. Or shall we say, I wasn’t until I became angry enough to get off the sidelines and speak out and vote against the MAGA extremism we are seeing in today’s society.
North Carolina is a purple state: 38.7% Independent, 30.4% Dem, and 30.3% GOP. In Guilford County, we are 39.4% Dem, 36.9% Independent, and 23.1% GOP (source). Let’s not let the minority extremes of the political party spectrum silence the majority in the middle.
In the 2025-2026 session, I had a 96% attendance and proudly made 604 votes on behalf of my constituents, 69% with the GOP majority and 31% against. This is the exact average for our NC House Democratic members. I believe this shows my middle-of-the-road bipartisanship to support common-sense, decent legislation by my GOP colleagues while still being a big, loud NO vote against the extreme MAGA agenda.

Despite both the Senate and House controlled by the GOP, this dysfunction within their own party has devastating consequences to everyone across our state, particularly public teachers and state employees still waiting on well-deserved salary increases, constituents on Medicaid and their service providers who experienced painful cuts this fall, residents receiving SNAP benefits who are losing Federal funding and relying on our state to keep their families nourished. As seen by the horrific actions of the Trump administration and NC Republicans heeding Trump’s direct request to further gerrymander NC’s Congressional maps to win another GOP seat in the 2026 midterm. Our state went from an even 7-7 US delegation in 2022 to now a suspected 11-3 GOP-dominated delegation in 2026. (Learn more)
Resulting in our communities being LESS safe. We have so far saved our state from a dangerous, deadly “Freedom to Carry NC” (SB50), which would allow anyone age 18+ to carry a loaded, concealed handgun in public with NO permit and NO training. Gov. Stein rightfully vetoed it and Democrats are standing united to fend off this override in the NC House. Devastatingly, Republicans overrode Gov. Stein’s veto of “Firearm Law Revisions” (HB193) (Learn more)
As our General Assembly siphons hundreds of millions of tax-payer dollars into vouchers, mostly for well-to-do families to earn kickbacks for already choosing to send their children to private, mostly religious, schools. (Learn more)
As witnessed by the most recent book indexing requirement bundled within HB805 that was rightfully vetoed by Gov. Stein but frustratingly overridden, which gave no notice and no funding and forced only public school teachers to manually archive every single book in their classrooms (whose library collections are largely paid for and provided by our underpaid teachers). I fully support our immigrant and refugee community. America is a melting pot of cultures and heritages and no one's race, ethnicity or origin is superior to another. The brutal and oftentimes unconstitutional actions of ICE is hurting our immigrant communities who are invaluable to our society. I supported Gov. Stein's vetoes of two hateful bills this session: HB318 The Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act. (sadly overridden) and SB153 North Carolina Border Protection Act.
